Please note that our itineraries are regularly updated based on customer feedback and current conditions in each destination. The information provided in this Essential Trip Information may differ from your initial booking. It’s crucial to review this before your journey for the latest updates. Additionally, unforeseen factors like weather, local conditions, or political events may require in-country itinerary adjustments. Your group leader or local representative will keep you informed of any changes once your trip begins
ACTIVITIES Please be aware that our activity schedule may change due to factors like weather, local conditions, or other unforeseen events. Your group leader or local representative will provide updates during your trip for any necessary adjustments
PASSPORT AND VISA ESSENTIALS
PASSPORT
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months before international travel. Please double-check that the passport details on your booking match exactly. Carry a copy of your passport’s photo page while traveling and leave another with family or friends. Provide us with your passport information for trip preparations
TRAVEL VISA GUIDELINES Your responsibility to obtain the required visas for your trip and transit countries. Check visa requirements immediately after booking to ensure ample time for preparation and processing
HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES
Ensure good physical health for full trip participation. If unwell before travel, contact us for alternative arrangements. Assess your ability to manage the itinerary, and consult your doctor for medical advice and vaccinations. Carry a first aid kit and essential medications in their original packaging. Be aware of any local restrictions on medication, and follow government travel advice
PHYSICAL RATING The physical rating for an active trip provides a quick overview of the expected level of physical exertion. It helps participants gauge the fitness demands of the journey. Ratings typically range from low to high, with low indicating a more relaxed pace and high suggesting a more strenuous and physically challenging experience. Understanding the physical rating allows travelers to choose trips aligning with their fitness levels and preferences, ensuring a more enjoyable and comfortable adventure
Low (1/5): Suitable for most fitness levels. Minimal physical activity, primarily leisurely strolls or activities with little exertion
Moderate (2/5): Requires a reasonable level of fitness. Expect some walking or light activities. Participants should be comfortable with occasional uneven terrain
Intermediate (3/5): Moderate fitness required. Involves more extended periods of activity, possibly on varied terrain. Participants should be prepared for some physical challenge
High (4/5): Good fitness level required. Significant physical activity involved, potentially including long hikes or challenging activities. Participants should be prepared for sustained exertion
Very High (5/5): Excellent fitness level required. Intensive physical activity throughout, possibly including strenuous hikes, climbs, or other demanding activities. Participants should be in peak physical condition
TRANSPORT
Greek Islands rely on public ferries, spacious but without reserved seats. Passengers can move freely, and luggage is stored on the car deck, not accessible during the journey. Greek public transport, influenced by ferry strikes and unpredictable weather, may lead to delays or itinerary adjustments. Stay flexible and be ready for potential changes
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS
PERSONAL BUDGETING
Plan for individual spending habits on meals, drinks, shopping, optional activities, and laundry. Review the itinerary and inclusions to understand what is covered in the trip price and what may require additional payment
EMERGENCY BUDGETING GUIDELINES
While we plan for various scenarios, unexpected events may prompt itinerary changes. Any additional costs due to emergencies or unavoidable alterations are your responsibility. Be prepared with extra funds for incidents like severe weather or unforeseen circumstances. Note that incidental expenses, such as visas and non-refundable flights, are not covered. Ensure access to extra funds for last-minute changes to keep our trips running smoothly
CARD USAGE TIPS
Use credit/debit cards at ATMs, prevalent in Europe. Check for international transaction fees with your bank. Note that not all stores and restaurants accept cards, so carry some cash for convenience
TIPPING GUIDELINES
While not obligatory, tipping is appreciated. In Greece, around 10% is customary for food. External guides may be tipped based on satisfaction. For tour leaders, consider €5-€10 per person per day, though the amount is personal preference. Tipping should reflect excellent service and is not mandatory
TRAVEL ESSENTIALS AND SEASONAL TIPS
PACKING TIPS
Pack lightly for easy mobility, considering the trip style, destinations, and travel times. A lockable suitcase with wheels (around 10-25kg) or a medium-sized backpack is recommended. Bring a day pack for daily essentials. Don’t forget your reusable water bottle, especially in destinations where tap water is safe
MONASTERY, CHURCH
For certain sites in Greece, note the dress code: long skirts or wrap-over pants for women, and long trousers for men, with covered shoulders, in monasteries
SUMMER IN GREECE
Summer temperatures may soar up to 40°C, posing discomfort for those unaccustomed to the heat. Consider the season and your comfort level when planning your travel
GROUP LEADERS
Our knowledgeable group leaders aim to enhance your travel experience by providing information on the places you visit, suggesting activities, recommending local eateries, and introducing you to our network. While not traditional guides, they offer general knowledge on historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects of the trip. For more specialized information, local guides may be recommended at specific sites. Your group leader will be with you for included activities, and you’ll have free time for personal interests. Remember, optional activities aren’t part of the official itinerary. Your leader may adjust plans for safety reasons
JOIN OUR COMMUNITY
TRAVEL ETIQUETTE
Embrace a shared love for adventure and respect for others. Follow local laws, customs, and regulations. Violence is not tolerated, and any disruptive behavior may result in removal from the trip. Practice responsible drinking. All decisions by leaders are final. No romantic relationships with staff. Comply with these rules and the laws of visited countries. Address concerns with your leader or contact us immediately using the emergency number provided
GROUP DYNAMICS
Traveling in a group offers diverse experiences. Be patient and considerate of fellow travelers’ needs. Timeliness is crucial for the group’s efficiency. Respect privacy; we can’t share contact details pre-departure
SOLO EXPLORER GUIDELINES
Our trips welcome solo travelers, roomed on a twin-share basis. We pair you with a same-gender traveler. Contact us for rooming preferences. Single supplements are available for those desiring individual accommodation during the tour, not applicable to pre/post-trip arrangements
TRAVEL INSURANCE ESSENTIALS
International travel requires compulsory travel insurance covering medical expenses and emergency repatriation. Ensure coverage includes personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage. Proof of insurance is required before joining the group. If covered by credit card insurance, provide insurer details, policy number, and emergency contact. EU, Swiss, and US residents are strongly recommended to purchase travel insurance, though not compulsory. Declining insurance requires signing a waiver form at the Group Meeting, acknowledging personal responsibility for emergency medical and repatriation costs
